Jay Edward Smith, 78, entered into rest on November 30, 2021 at York Hospital. He was the loving husband of Isabelle Smith with whom he shared 57 years of marriage in May.
Born on August 14, 1943 in York to the late Dorothy (Simpson) and Herbert Smith. Jay honorably served his country as member of the United States Army. Jay loved all things electrical: he was a self taught electrician, a radio enthusiast and enjoyed going to Hamfests. He also enjoyed flying kites, street rods and muscle cars. He volunteered at Christian School of York for over 13 years. Jay also helped in the sound room at Harmony Grove Community Church where he was a long standing member. He was also a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, Isabelle, Jay leaves to cherish his memory, a daughter, Lisa Hoover (Andrew); a sister, Gloria Miller; brothers, Jimmie Smith, Garry Smith, Kerry Smith, and Jerry Smith; grandchildren, Tyler Hoover (Destiny), Christopher Hoover (Zoe) and Michael Hoover (Dorie); great-grandchildren, Oliver, Grayson and Reagan; life long friend of over 45 years, John Adams; and a host of family and friends. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Gerald Smith, Herbert Smith and Steve Smith.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Lighthouse Baptist Church of Greater York, 5005 Carlisle Rd PA with Pastor Sterling Walsh officiating. A viewing will be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Both the viewing and service are open to the public. Burial at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery will be private. Due to Jay's love of cats, donations can be made in his memory to the York County SPCA, 3159 N. Susquehanna Trail, York, Pa 17406. Gladfelter Funeral Home, Inc. is entrusted with the arrangements.
