It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Donna Mae Lunger, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Donna passed away peacefully on July 27, 2026, in her home in York, PA, enveloped in the love of her family and friends after a lengthy illness. She was 66 years old.
Donna was born on December 29, 1959, in York, PA, to Charles E. Rosengrant and Carol E. Rosengrant (Wilderson). She was a beacon of strength and compassion, qualities she carried throughout her life. She is predeceased by her parents, Carol and Charles Rosengrant, and her cherished family members, Step Father Carl Shifflet and Sister Beth Ann Egbert.
A proud graduate of West York Area High School, class of 1977, Donna pursued her passion for nursing by attending the York County School of Technology's Adult Nursing Education program. She became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in 1982 and dedicated her life to the care and well-being of others. Her career spanned over four decades, including over 25 remarkable years at Spring Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Donna also contributed her skills at York Hospital, Manor Care, and Health South, leaving an indelible mark on colleagues and patients, and their families alike.
Donna's life was enriched by her enduring commitment to the Girl Scouts of America, where she served as a troop leader for over 20 years and earned numerous awards. Her community service extended to her active involvement with the PTA at Lincoln Elementary School for over a decade. She was instrumental in founding the Lincoln Charter School, a testament to her vision and dedication to education. Beyond her professional and community endeavors, Donna found joy in simple pleasures. She was an avid reader and puzzle enthusiast, and lover of gardening. Finding tranquility and solace in these activities. Her home was a haven of love and laughter, where her grandchildren brought her endless joy and pride.
Donna is survived by her devoted husband of 41 years, Leo R. Lunger Jr., and her beloved children: Ashley M. Stahle and her husband Richard, Kaitlyn A. Lunger-Miller and her husband Lane, Shane M. Lunger, Erin J. Lunger and partner Sue Sheaffer, and Kathy J. Stahle Hughes and her husband Richard.
She was the adored grandmother to nine grandchildren: Ale’zaye T. Stahle, Draydon B. Stahle, Kaemon C. Stahle, Leo J. Miller, Calliope G. Miller, Dylan J. Hughes, Ethan R. Hughes, Aiden D. Hughes, and Kalen N. Hughes.
Donna is also survived by her siblings, David and Stacey Rosengrant, Diane (Craig) Geida, and Carla (Herb) Whary, along with countless cousins, nieces, nephews, a great- niece and nephews, adopted children, and close in-laws who will forever cherish her memory.
Donna Mae Lunger's life was a testament to love, compassion, faith, and service. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all those she touched. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
A service to honor Donna's life will be held on August 3, 2026 at Thrive Church located at 661 N Newberry Street York, PA 17404. Visitation at 12pm, Services at 1pm with food and fellowship following immediately after.
