Edward E. Jennings, 77, passed away on September 19, 2026, at York Hospital.
Born in York, Pennsylvania, on June 12, 1949, Ed was the son of the late Archie Kyle and Frances “Betsy” Jennings. He was the loving husband of Marie Jennings, with whom he shared 21 wonderful years of marriage where they went on many adventures and shared their love of travel.
Ed graduated from Dallastown Senior High School in 1967, where he played football, beginning a lifelong love affair with the sport. After high school, he continued his education and graduated with an became a certified electrician. His favorite job was working for Stone Container Corp. where he spent 23 years overseeing their electrical and power departments. When Stone Container closed its doors, he joined Pennex Aluminum in Wellsville, retiring in 2020. Of course, “retirement” was apparently more of a suggestion to Ed than an actual plan. His work ethic simply would not allow him to go quietly into retirement, and he continued working right up until his recent illness.
A devoted Penn State fan, Ed held season tickets for most of his life and rarely, if ever, missed a game. Saturdays in the fall had a schedule, and everyone else was expected to plan accordingly. When Penn State wasn’t playing, he could be found cheering on his beloved Philadelphia Eagles.
As much as Ed loved football, he loved his family more. Ed spent 9 years coaching girls’ softball for NEYSA. He spent another 8 years marching along his daughter’s baton group in local parades. He was one of his grandchildren’s most loyal fans and could regularly be found on the sidelines or in the stands at soccer, football, baseball, volleyball, and cheerleading events. He traveled countless miles and endured heat, cold, rain, wind, and whatever else Mother Nature threw at him, usually without complaint. The notable exception was when a grandchild’s game dared to overlap with Penn State or the Eagles. Then, there may have been a complaint or two.
Ed was a kind and caring soul who genuinely enjoyed helping others. And because he was an expert electrician, there was rarely a shortage of people willing to let him help. If something needed wiring, fixing, troubleshooting, or an honest opinion about how someone else had wired it incorrectly, Ed was your guy. His easygoing nature, unmistakable laugh, generosity, and willingness to lend a hand made him a treasured husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. More than anything, Ed showed his love by being there. He showed up for work. He showed up for his family. He showed up for the games. And when someone needed him, Ed showed up for them, too.
In addition to his wife, Marie, Ed leaves behind a family who will cherish his memory and miss him dearly: his two daughters, Bobbi (Steve) Garland and Jenie Jackson; six grandchildren, Cole Garland, Kyle Garland, Tyler Friend (Koya), Katie Friend, Danielle Sturgis (Isaiah), and James Jackson; and seven great-grandchildren, Bransyn Friend, Brynlee Green, Bryleigh Thomas, Brayla Thomas, Kilynn Sturgis, Kayden Friend, and Kohen Friend. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews. Last but certainly not least, his dog, Lucy Renee who absolutely adored him. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Frances, and his brothers, Ralph Jennings and Harry Jennings.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Emigsville Park, 15 Emigs Road, Emigsville, Pennsylvania, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 24.
Ed leaves behind a lifetime of memories, a family who knew how deeply they were loved, more than a few electrical projects bearing his handiwork, and generations of sports fans who learned from one of the best.
And somewhere, we’d like to think Ed has already found out what channel the game is on.
