Elizabeth L. “Betsy” Sheffer passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at York Hospital surrounded by family. She was the wife of the late Theodore “Teddy” Mann.
Born March 1, 1942, in Newport News, VA, she was a daughter of the late David Woodward and Laura (Wroten) Heater. Betsy worked for various factories, managed McDonalds and the Red Lion Elks Lodge, and most recently at Weis Markets. She was a member of the Red Lion American Legion Auxiliary Unit 543 and was a former Girl Scout/Boy Scout Leader.
Betsy enjoyed spending time at Shrine Mont, going to Nascar/Sprint Car Races, watching grandkids play soccer, and spoiling her Great Grandkids. After retirement from full-time work, Betsy enjoyed RV traveling, which allowed her to spend time with family in various states, including Texas and Florida. In her travels, one thing remained constant, she always resided close to family. She will be remembered for her witty no filter sense of humor and her caring heart where she helped raise two of her great-grandchildren, Jayden McKenzie and Adriana Gibson.
Betsy is survived by her two daughters, Evonne Myers of Felton and Denise Wilson of York; a son, Calvin Snelbaker (Roxanne) of Felton; two stepdaughters, Patricia Capps and Judith Brannen; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; a sister Frances Fisher (Stewart) of York; and her cat, Winston. She is preceded in death by her first husband Glenn Sheffer; two sons, Christopher Gibson Sr. and Bradley Sheffer; son-in-law, Paul Myers; two grandsons, Brandon Gibson and Bradley Sheffer Jr.; great grandson, Matthew Sheffer; and two great-granddaughters, Ruthie Jean Strickler and Serenity Langle.
A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, August 17, 2024, Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 900 Pleasant Grove Rd, Red Lion, with Pastor Laura Holtzapple. Burial will be next year at Shrine Mont, Orkney Springs, VA. Memorial contributions may be made to Shrine Mont, 217 Shrine Mont Cir, Orkney Springs, VA 22845.
