Ernestine Louise (Shuman) Sweitzer, of York, passed away at the age of 90 on Monday, April 11, 2022. She was the wife of the late Harry W. Sweitzer, Sr. Born in York, Pa on May 18, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Roman S. and Susan E. Shuman. Ernestine was a 1950 graduate of York Catholic. She was also a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in York.
Ernestine was a homemaker and enjoyed raising her children. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and embroidery. She loved animals, especially her cats, Poo and Nea and her dog, Baby. Ernestine volunteered as a Grandparents Aid at the York City School District and enjoyed her time with the children very much.
Ernestine leaves to cherish her memory seven children, Elaine Leiphart (Randy), Edward Sweitzer (Tina), Randolph Sweitzer, Kenneth Sweitzer (Jane), Carol Bolyard, Kathryn Tolar and Philip Sweitzer (Tracey); brother, George Shuman;
She was preceded in death by her husband Harry; three children, Ronald Sweitzer, Harry Sweitzer, Jr. and Margaret Kohr; 21 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; and eight siblings, John Shuman, Muriel Lesser, Anna Schriver, Susan Seitz, Roman Shuman, Eleanor Gottshalt, Julia Helf and Robert Shuman.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Gladfelter Funeral Home, Inc. Pastor Ricky McCarl will be officiating. A visitation will be held prior from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
