Holding a Flower

On Sunday, January 15, 2023 God in His Infinite Wisdom saw fit to call Estella F. Jones home to be with Him. Stella was born on October 22, 1930 to the late Roy and Viola (Buchanan) Jones.
Stella was educated early on attending the one room school house in York County. Stella was raised in the Fawn Township in a house close to the old Fawn Church a little bit above the new A.M.E. Zion Church. As kids, Stella and Nellie had fond memories of listening to church services and many events from their home. She may not have attended church on a regular basis, she believed in God. She recently mentioned that she wanted to attend church in person, she watched sometimes on TV. But God knows all and called her to a better place to be with her family. He saw the road was getting rough and said my child that is enough.
Stella loved spending time with her beloved sister Nellie her best friend before her passing (they were two peas in a pod). Nellie always looked out for her baby sister Stella, their two brothers, and father. Stella carried on as best she could without her sister Nellie. Stella very much loved her niece, Linda Jenkins and was very protective of her. When Nellie passed Linda became more involved in Stella’s care which was not an easy feat. But God softened Stella’s heart to accept more help from family members. Stella would always say God Knows, and he does, he knew that it was time for her to be with her family
The family would like to especially thank Benita Washington for her dedication and constant daily care for Stella in recent years until her passing. Stella definitely had her ways, as we all do, Benita you were there with her to the end. In her own way she was very grateful.
Stella enjoyed going out to dinner, long rides down the back Pennsylvania roads to the country, and getting phone calls from many family members to check on her. She enjoyed hearing stories about the adventures of Pede and Xander that would have her laughing until she was crying. Stella also enjoyed watching Judges Mablean, Mathis, Judy, westerns, and game shows.
Stella had a sharp memory for a 92-year-old to remember many stories of her childhood growing up in Fawn. She worked with her Cousin Nettie Young picking vegetables at McPherson’s farm.
She leaves to cherish her Memory her loving niece Linda Jenkins of Philadelphia, PA, several special cousins Geraldine Harris of Red Lion, PA, Mary Harris, of York, PA, Benita Washington of York, PA, Joscelyn Brown of Edgewood, MD, and Desi Govans (Deslee as she pronounced it) of Frederick, MD, and many other cousins. Preceding her in death was her parents Roy and Viola Jones, her sisters Nellie and Myrtle, brothers William and Clifford Jones, and nephew Joseph Bey, Jr.
Stella will be missed by many. I would like to thank so many that helped care for Aunt Stella and loved her deeply. Cousins Roland Lowrie and Beatrice Simpson all stepped in to help in their own ways, as well as many other cousins, family and friends.
