Freeman R. Smith, 90, entered into rest on September 11, 2023, at his home. He was the loving husband of Ruth A. (Mansberger) Smith.
Born on January 6, 1933, in Yoe, he was the son of the late Ivan and Mazie (Schmuck) Smith.
Freeman worked as a mechanic for much of his life and later went to work for Leonard's Automotive as a car hauler until he was 77.
He enjoyed spending time with his animals, he especially loved his dogs, Mindy and Pepper.
In addition to his wife, Ruth, Freeman leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Debra Groff, Warren Smith, Richard Smith, and Randy Smith; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lois Leonard.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at 4 p.m. at Bible Baptist Church, 4190 Susquehanna Trail, York, PA. Pastor Bill Schutt will be officiating the service. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. The burial will take place at Quickels Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making memorial donations to the York County SPCA, 3159 N. Susquehanna Trail, York, Pa. Gladfelter Funeral Home, Inc. is entrusted with the arrangements.
