With great sadness yet hearts full of fond memories, we announce the passing of Harold Chandler Sweeney Sr., a treasured father, grandfather, veteran, and valued member of the York, Pennsylvania community.
Harold, age 88, departed this world on January 2, 2024, leaving a legacy of love, resilience, and a deep sense of duty towards his family and friends.
Born on November 3, 1935, to Lawrence and Paula Sweeney. His life was marked by a remarkable journey from a proud Army veteran to a dedicated employee at Caterpillar and Borg Warner in York. At both companies, Harold's strong work ethic and camaraderie were greatly admired, making him a respected figure among his colleagues.
Harold's journey was as unique and multifaceted as his character. His warmth and charisma made him a well-loved figure in the York community. His love for conversation, coupled with his ever-present Philadelphia Eagles gear made him a recognizable and cherished presence. Harold's passion for the outdoors was evident in his love for hunting and fishing, a joy he shared with many, always eager to bring others into the fold of his favorite pastimes.
At the core of Harold's life was his family. He is survived by his children Harold Sweeney Jr I, Eric Sweeney, Desiree Sweeney, Paula Sweeney, Brian Sweeney, Valerie Scott, Tanya Sweeney, Arthur Sweeney, David Sweeney, Timothy Sweeney, Harold Sweeney Jr II, Jeffrey Dorm, and Steve Roland Sr. He was preceded in death by his son, Glen Sweeney. His grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom he cherished deeply, will miss his loving presence.
Harold's legacy is one of profound love and heartfelt connections, evident in the lives he touched with his kindness and genuine spirit. As a pillar of strength and joy, his memory will continue to inspire and guide us.
As we bid farewell to Harold Chandler Sweeney Sr., we are comforted by the love he shared and the memories we hold dear. His spirit remains alive in our hearts and through the legacy he leaves behind.
Harold Chandler Sweeney Sr., you will forever be in our thoughts and cherished in our hearts. Rest in peace, knowing that your spirit lives on through those you loved and who loved you in return.
A Celebration of Harold's life will be held on January 12th, 2024, at Jabez Ministries, located at 40 Jefferson Avenue, York, PA 17401, at 12 noon. Pastor Adrian Boxley will be officiating the service. A viewing will be held before the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will take place immediately after the service at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Military Honors will be presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Gladfelter Funeral Home, Inc. is entrusted with the arrangements.
