Holding a Flower

John Edward Meyer, 74, entered into rest on February 11, 2024, at Lancaster General. He was the loving husband of Shirley A. Musser.
Born on March 7, 1949, in Irwin, Pa, he was the son of the late Sylvester Joseph and Virginia Francis (Pierson) Meyer.
John played football for the University of Pittsburgh and earned a degree in Business and Economics. He later went on to work for Kmart as a district manager for 40 years.
He was an avid Steelers fan. John also loved Harley Davidson. He enjoyed watching Western movies and went by the nickname "Hondo" after his favorite character, played by John Wayne. He also enjoyed listening to audiobooks. He loved dogs and had a very special bond with Sinbad, Sheena, Sherlock, and Baby. He loved talking to his family and friends and loved hearing about his great-grandbaby Josie. John was funny and a strong man and leader, and we will feel the void he has left in our hearts every day. He will be missed and we will always remember him as he was, DJ-ing and dancing and cracking jokes for everyone. We will all remember him ending his daily chats with “stay safe” and “keep smiling”. We will continue to smile in his honor and appreciate the times we had together.
John leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Shirley A. Musser; children, John Richard Meyer (Carly Snyder and family), Joshua Lee Meyer (Ashley Lareau and family) and Lyndsey Elizabeth Labelle (Josh Labelle); grandchildren, Angelia Doll, Logan Doll, Devin Labelle, Caleb Labelle, and Veronica Meyer; One Great Grandchild, Josephine Bell; various nieces and nephews, 3 stepchildren and 2 step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by siblings, Patricia McClure and Jeanne Porter.
Services will be held 4:00pm Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Arlington E. C. Church, 585 Lombard Road, Red Lion, PA 17356.
Gladfelter Funeral Home, Inc. is entrusted with the arrangements.
