Matthew T. Bateman, 66, passed away October 9, 2026. He was the loving husband of Brenda L. Bateman, "Yesterday, Today, Forever". Born in Baltimore, MD on July 3, 1960, he was the son of the late Paul and Jean Kratz Bateman.

Matthew leaves to cherish his memory, in addition to his wife Brenda, his children, Sean and fiancee Lauren, Jeremy, Emile and husband Nathan and Gabrielle and husband Anthony; grandchildren, Ellieana, Vincent and Josephina; brothers, Russell and wife Valerie and Alan and wife Carol; nephews, Travis and wife Hilary, Graham and wife Lindsay, David and wife Sara; niece, Elizabeth; and several great nieces and nephews.

Matt was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren, especially taking Ellieana to parks. He enjoyed smoking meat such as ribs or pork as well as making molasses cookies around Christmas time. He loved everything history related, specifically watching history shows as well as visiting Civil War sites. Matt knew everything there was to know about astronomy and loved sharing that passion with others. He was always listening to something, either symphony music, classic rock or an Oriole's game. He was also an avid rider, both bicycles and his motorcycle "The Colonel" which he loved to ride with his wife. And of course, telling the worst Pappy jokes.

Matt easily engaged in any conversation with anyone. He had a way of making people consider how vast the universe was and challenged one to slow down to appreciate it. He was an incredibly brilliant man in so many ways, while still having a childlike innocence. He was always willing to help others in need.
Matt's family would like to thank the First Capital EMS crew, STAT Medivac Flight Team, along with UPMC Memorial and UPMC Harrisburg Hospitals for all their effort and compassion while treating Matt.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in January of 2027. Detail will be provided as they become known.

In lieu of flowers, we are collecting donations for the extensive medical bills accumulated. Donations can be made at www.GoFundMe.com/LifeWithoutPappy
