Steven H. Gross, Jr. passed over to his Lord with boots on doing the farm work he loved on Sunday, September 3, 2023. He led a life and career dedicated to his faith, family, and agriculture. Steve was a friend to many and served our community throughout his life.
Steve was born to Phyllis (Hertzler) Gross and the late Steven H. Gross, Sr. on March 16, 1968, at York Hospital. Steve leaves behind many who loved him. In addition to this mother, Steve leaves his wife of 35 years, Rebekah (Inch) Gross of Manchester. Our son Nevin and daughter-in-law Lauren Gross and grandson Leon of Waldorf, MD, our son Lane Gross and his fiancée Ashley Messman of Mt Wolf, and our son Regan Gross of State College, PA. He is also survived by his brother and partner in agriculture Daniel Gross and his wife, Tina (Hedrick) Gross of Mt. Wolf, and sister Gretta Gross of York Haven, PA, nieces, Leah (Gross) and husband Justin Ford and Jenna Gross, and long-time friend Allen Jr. and wife Wendy King of Dover, PA.
Steve was preceded in death by his father Steven H. Gross, Sr, his grandparents Harold “Zach” and Ethel Gross, Earl and Eva Hertzler, and his father and mother-in-law, Carl and Faith (Muir) Inch.
Steve and Becky were members of the Otterbein Church in Mt Wolf and served in various capacities.  Steve owned and operated D&S Gross Cold Spring Farms, LLC, a dairy-beef and crop operation, in partnership with his brother Dan and worked together with Steve’s son, Lane, and longtime valued friend Allen King. They start and finish Holstein and Angus-Holstein cross cattle including a cow-calf herd. They farm 2000 acres of corn, soybeans, wheat, sunflowers, barley, hay, and cover crops, which are sold directly to customers. Steve was also a partner in a Purina feed store with his partners Dan Gross, and Bill and Lori Carpenter.
Steve served on many local, county, state, and national agricultural committees over the last 30 years. A few highlights of his service include the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, American Farm Bureau Young Farmer and Rancher Committee, the York County Farmland Preservation Board, and the York County Farm and Natural Lands Trust Board of Directors, and most recently, Steve joined the York County Agricultural Society Board which oversees the York State Fair.
Steve was a current Board Member of Horizon Farm Credit and thoroughly enjoyed working with his fellow board members in serving the members of the Horizon Farm Credit Association. Steve was the current Chairman of the East Manchester Township Board of Supervisors where he served over the last 25 years.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Otterbein Church, 131 Center St, Mt Wolf, Pa. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Otterbein Church, 131 Center St, Mt Wolf, Pa. Pastor Mark Zortman will be officiating the service. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church.
