Summer M. Backel, 43, passed away December 8, 2021.  She was the loving spouse of Paul Smith, Jr. with whom she shared over twenty years together.  Born in York, Pa on June 23, 1978 Summer was the daughter of Linda Trish and the late Arthur Backel.

      Summer loved spending time with her family.  She enjoyed the outdoors, bike riding, camping, bonfires and cookouts with family and friends.  She loved to go roller skating with her son.  She was an avid cook and was always helping people.  She loved her pets.  Summer had so many friends and will be deeply missed by them and her family.  

     Summer leaves to cherish her memory, in addition to her spouse, Paul and mother, Linda; daughter, Chastity Smith; son, Abel Smtih; three sisters, Holly Holcomb, Chelsey Backel and Anita Smith; three grandchildren, Laikyn Mort, Baine Mort and Alecia Frantz; and a host of family and friends. 

      A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, December 17, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. with Pastor Ricky McCarl officiating.  A visitation will be held prior from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at the Gladfelter Funeral Home, Inc., 822 E. Market Street, York, Pa 17403.
